Mounted saber and broadsword competitions were conducted in the British and U.S. cavalries until World War I. While modern saber fencing is based on a different tradition, the rules of this highly specialized and restricted sport were later on used to explain modern saber target restrictions.

  1. That’s a more than just interesting picture. These helmets seem to be quite useful. Looks like a mixture of fencing mask, kendo-helmet and kind of ‘SCA-prototype-helmet’.
    Did any of these helmets survive the years?
