Grand Salut

Not an attack to the rear…

Almost forgotten today, the Grand Salut was a rather elaborate sequence of movements that preceded each bout. A large percentage of 19th-century fencing photos does indeed depict the salute, not any competitive action.

Strangely enough, no Classical Fencer has uploaded a video of it on youtube yet.

There is no further information on the officers or the location of this image.
