Young French fencer…

This cabinet card depicts a bespectacled épée fencer from Berck-Place, a French seaside community in the Département of Pas-de-Calais. Mask and gear point at the turn of the last century as the date of origin. Other than most fencing postcards and pictures of the Belle Époque, we’re looking at a civilian, not a military fencer.
