Epee; France, c. 1880

Greek Helmet Pommel

Greek Helmet Pommel

Never mind classic technique… but épées sure used to look nicer…

This French-made practice épée, part of a matched pair in the Amberger Collection, has an iron pommel shaped like a classical Greek helmet. The handle is leather wrapped with metal wire. The blade bears the imprint of “L. Rochetin”. Apart from being a remarkable set of épées, there is nothing else remarkable about this weapon.
