More naval fencing…

 

The old traditional cut fencing of 18th-century England survived in the Cutlass Drills of the Royal Navy and the nascent U.S. Navy. 

No arguing the edge parry here: This 1898 American stereoscopic view shows to U.S. sailors aboard the U.S.S. Monterey practicing cut fencing from the hanging guard. By then, of course, the prospects for actual combat with cutlasses were rater remote. Please note that their sidearm is a revolver.
