Schwingen today is considered the national pastime of Switzerland. This postcard shows that it was not unknown in southern Germany at the end of the 19th century.

this looks exaclty like that what we in Salzburg and Southern Bavaria call “Ranggeln” (comp. to http://www.hochkoenig.at/static/cms/test/hundstein.jpg ) which is – as you can see here http://www.ringen-weilheim.de/images/ranggeln082.jpg – not only for grown ups ;-)
