Issued by a studio in Thionville, France, this cabinet card is undated. But the gear and the facial hair fashions indicate that the origin of the photo dates to the era of Napoleon III, whose reign came to an unscheduled stop in 1871.
The foil is an upscale lunette-guard model with an ornate urn-shaped pommel.
