Military fencing master

Posing for a cabinet card in front of a military backdrop…

Dating from 1902, this cabinet card was produced by a studio in Versailles. The unknown military fencing master depicted poses in the full gear of the period… which still includes the elk-hide soles that were strapped to the shoes.

The épée of that period is already the streamlined, functional sports implement we’re using today.

  1. Thanks for sharing this terrific cabinet card. Great image of the fencers gear and quite the interesting backdrop.
